Meet Susana
Bio
Susana is an accomplished executive and the first Hispanic independently elected statewide in Illinois. A former collegiate athlete, legislator, and citywide official, she is a fierce advocate for public service, family, and her convictions.

Experience
Susana’s record of delivering results includes being the first statewide Democrat endorsed by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce for navigating the 2016–2017 fiscal crisis. As Chicago City Clerk, she modernized the vehicle sticker system for 1.3 million drivers, eliminating multi-hour lines through year-round sales. Previously, as a State Representative, she was repeatedly recognized for her leadership in education, job growth, social services, and public safety.
Accomplishments
As Comptroller, Susana passed historic transparency reforms, such as the Debt Transparency Act, which shifted state agency reporting from annual to monthly. Her financial stewardship helped guide Illinois to 10 credit upgrades—the state’s first in more than 20 years—while navigating the challenges of a global pandemic.

Family
My greatest treasure is my family. My two Davids and I live in Chicago’s Portage Park neighborhood and love staying active together, whether we are biking, traveling for snowboarding trips to Colorado, or supporting our son’s recreational sports, Scouting, and school activities.
