Superintendent Larry Snelling has served the City of Chicago with valor and integrity for more than three decades in the Chicago Police Department. His extraordinary leadership over the last three years has lifted morale throughout CPD and made a difference across our City.
Along with many Chicagoans, I am deeply grateful for the service of Superintendent Snelling, and I am sorry to see him go.
The loss of this exceptional leader adds to the public safety crisis in Chicago, which is evident in the disturbingly violent start to Summer in our City.
Too many of our police officers are being held back by this City Hall from doing their jobs. Too often, this City Hall has rushed to take credit for the work and sacrifices of the heroic officers who risk their lives every day to keep the people of our City safe.
Being a police officer is difficult and dangerous work. The members of the Chicago Police Department deserve a mayor who will listen to them, respect them, and work with them.
I offer my heartfelt best wishes to Superintendent Snelling and my sincere commitment to the brave men and women of the Chicago Police Department.
